COP29 Session

AMCHAM T&T's ESG and HSE committee members participated in a session to explore the opportunities and challenges of COP29 and to discuss the agreement for developed nations to provide US$300 billion annually to developing countries by 2035, aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and safeguarding lives and livelihoods from the escalating effects of climate change.

The meeting was led by Kishan Kumarsingh, Head of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Unit at the Ministry of Planning and Development, and Ryan Bachoo, Multimedia Journalist at Guardian Media.

UWI Symposium

At a recent UWI symposium on 'Toward Improved Public Security: Crime Reduction and Prevention Through the Lenses of the Private Security Industry and Law Enforcement Agencies in Trinidad and Tobago,' Nirad Tewarie shared three key recommendations to strengthen collaboration between the TTPS and the private security sector to enhance public safety and security in Trinidad and Tobago. They are:

· Regular Information-Sharing – Establish structured regional and national sessions, modelled after the OSAC approach, to enhance dialogue and intelligence-sharing.
· Expand the Eagle Eye Programme – Strengthen partnerships between private security firms and the TTPS to improve crime-fighting through enhanced surveillance and intelligence-sharing.
· Streamline Administrative Processes – Improve efficiency in obtaining Certificates of Character and Firearm User’s Employee Certificates to ensure private security officers are well-vetted and properly equipped.

These measures aim to enhance public safety and security through stronger collaboration.

The symposium was hosted by Institute of International Relations, at The UWI, St. Augustine campus, in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago Private Security Association and Tunapuna Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
