ICS 100, or the Introduction to the Incident Command System, is a foundational course that introduces the principles and features of ICS, a standardized, on-scene, all-risk management system that provides an integrated, flexible organizational structure for managing incidents of any size. The course explains the core concepts of ICS, its organizational structure (including the Incident Commander and key functional areas like Operations, Planning, Logistics, and Finance/Administration), its relationship with the National Incident Management System (NIMS), and how its NIMS management characteristics contribute to its effectiveness in diverse situations such as natural disasters, planned events, and public health emergencies.
PURPOSE
This course provides training and resources for personnel who require a basic understanding of the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS-100 introduces ICS and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. It also explains the relationship between ICS and the NIMS.
AUDIENCE
The target audience includes persons involved with emergency planning and response or recovery efforts.
