MEDIA RELEASE
06/02/2026

The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) met with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on February 3rd, 2026, at the Ministry of Finance as part of the Fund’s 2026 Article IV Consultation with Trinidad and Tobago, providing private-sector perspectives on the country’s economic performance, outlook, and policy priorities.

The meeting was attended by Anna Henderson, President of AMCHAM T&T; Anderson Basdeo, Director; Tricia De La Rosa–Camacho, Director; and Melissa Pierre, Manager – Initiatives & Policy who met with representatives of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Ms. Anastacia Guscina, Deputy Chief, Caribbean Division I, Western Hemisphere Department, alongside Justin Matz, Senior Economist; Carlos Chaverri Morales, Senior Economist; Peter Stephen Oliver Nagle, Economist; and Diego Alejandro Guiterrez, Research Analyst.

Discussions focused on current economic conditions, medium-term growth prospects, fiscal and structural reform priorities, private-sector confidence, and the policy environment required to support sustainable growth, competitiveness, and investment. During the engagement, AMCHAM T&T President Anna Henderson welcomed the opportunity to contribute private-sector insights to the IMF’s assessment, noting that the discussion was strengthened by data drawn directly from AMCHAM T&T’s membership.

She highlighted findings from AMCHAM T&T’s Economic Outlook Pulse Survey, conducted among members and unveiled at the Economic Outlook Forum on January 21, which indicated a higher level of confidence among respondents in the economy and growing optimism for some level of economic growth in 2026 compared to the start of 2025. “The survey reflects a cautiously optimistic business community – one that sees real opportunities for growth, but also recognises the importance of policy certainty, reform momentum, and sustained engagement,” Henderson said. “Engagements like this ensure that the realities facing businesses on the ground are reflected in international assessments and help shape policy recommendations that support competitiveness, investment, and long-term economic resilience.”

AMCHAM T&T’s participation in the IMF Article IV Consultation underscores the Chamber’s role as a credible voice for the private sector and a constructive partner in national economic dialogue. Such engagements ensure that private-sector perspectives are meaningfully incorporated into international economic assessments and policy discussions, while strengthening evidence-based advocacy through member insights on competitiveness, the investment climate, and key drivers of growth. The dialogue also promotes transparency and business confidence by fostering open, constructive engagement between international institutions and local business leaders–supporting more effective policy outcomes, an improved operating environment, and long-term economic resilience.

AMCHAM T&T remains committed to representing the interests of its members and contributing meaningfully to discussions that shape Trinidad and Tobago’s economic future.
