15th Annual National Excellence in HSE Awards

The 15th Annual National Excellence in HSE Awards will be hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) at a glitzy awards ceremony on Monday, Nov. 10th 2025, at the POS Ballroom, Hyatt Regency. The event will celebrate and honor companies of all sizes and sectors for their achievements in HSE excellence within their operations. 

This year’s awards featured submissions from thirty-five (35) submissions vying for the National Excellence in HSE Awards.

Towards Operational Resilience


The Award will consider the state of preparation to respond to a disruption and the state of enhanced resilience through business continuity management processes as defined by ISO 22301:2019. It will evaluate the road map to enhancing resilience within an established business continuity management framework. The thrust is preparing for crises/disruptions by enhancing resilience as defined by ISO standards and adopting business continuity management disciplines. The Award would seek to stimulate and enhance resilience by focusing on the ability to respond and adapt within the corporate culture.

Outstanding OSH & Environment Project


This prestigious award seeks to recognize and inspire entities that are committed to forging the path toward HSE excellence by the implementation of a project. This project must have been completed and resulted in significant and sustainable improvement in any one or more elements of the organization’s Health, Safety, Environment, and Employee/Stakeholder Wellness.

OPENING REMARKS 

Nirad Tewarie 

Chief Executive Officer | AMCHAM T&T 

Nirad Tewarie is the CEO of AMCHAM T&T. He has more than twenty-five years’ experience in media, communications, management, education and international relations. Nirad is also the Chairman of C15 studios, a Member of the Board of Directors of Aspire Fund Management, and the Loan for Enterprise and Network Development.
Passionate about youth development and using his expertise for good, Nirad is the Chairman of the 50-year-old, San Juan Jabloteh Sports Club and Manager of the Hillview College Football Teams, where he oversaw the promotion of the Senior Team to the Championship Division of the Secondary Schools’ Football League after just one season.
Nirad was formerly the CEO of the T&T Coalition of Services Industries (TTCSI), Chairman of the Caribbean Network of Services Coalitions, a member of the Communications and Public Affairs Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, UK and a columnist for the Trinidad Guardian. 
A keen supporter of the arts, Nirad is an Associate Producer of Bazodee the Movie, and the former Chairman of the Cabinet Appointed Fashion Industry Development Committee. 
Nirad holds a BSc. in Mass Communications from Florida International University and an MSc in International Relations from the Institute of International Relations, UWI. He regularly speaks at regional conferences on matters related to technology & economic development.

Suzanne Persaud 

R egional HSE&C Manager Trinidad & Tobago | BP Trinidad and Tobago LLC 

Suzanne is a seasoned HSE professional with twenty years of global experience in the energy industry. Prior to taking up her current role, she served as an environment and social (E&S) assessment manager leading a global team of environmental and social experts with expertise in managing multidisciplinary teams, navigating regulatory landscapes, and driving environmental and sustainable projects.
Suzanne holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering from Imperial College London. She has worked in various countries including Trinidad, Angola, Azerbaijan, and the United Kingdom. Her commitment to bp's purpose and fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace underscores her dedication to HSE, sustainability and people-centric leadership.
Outside of work, Suzanne finds joy in the company of friends and family, keeping active with her two young children, Leo and Lily.


HEAD JUDGE REMARKS 

Gerard Rajkumar

Manager and Lead Consultant | Sygma Environmental 

Gerard Rajkumar is a professional with 20 years’ experience in the field of HSE. In this time, he has worked on projects entailing industrial hygiene, indoor air quality (including mould and COVID-19), health and safety audits and project oversight, environmental monitoring, management plans and audits, asbestos abatement, bioremediation and carbon calculations and inventory. As part of this journey, he headed the Environmental Unit at CARIRI where he was involved in major projects in the HSE field. At Sygma Environmental, he continues this work in both Trinidad and Tobago as well as throughout the region. In all, he has worked on over 400 HSE projects. Gerard is a Certified Indoor Environmentalist (CIE) and is a member of the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA). He possesses certification from NEBOSH (UK), Asbestos Inspection and Management from AHERA, and has been trained in conducting Greenhouse Gas Inventories via ISO 14064-1. He Possesses a BSc and an MSc in Natural Resources Management from the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine and Cave Hill respectively. Outside of work, his passion for HSE has led to active participation in initiatives such as the Green Screen Film Festival, the New Fire Festival, and World Meteorological Day.
