The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad & Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) welcomes the United States’ decision to remove tariffs on key Trinidad & Tobago exports – including ammonia and UAN (urea ammonium nitrate), both widely used fertilizers – following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on November 14th, 2025.

We are grateful for this development, which strengthens the longstanding trade relationship between our countries and brings important relief to local producers affected by the earlier tariffs. AMCHAM T&T also acknowledges the Government of Trinidad & Tobago for its advocacy in securing this outcome and supporting the competitiveness of our domestic industries. 

“This decision by the United States is an important signal that our trade relationship remains strong and rooted in mutual respect,” said Nirad Tewarie, CEO of AMCHAM T&T. “For Trinidad & Tobago, this means our agricultural and downstream exporters can operate with renewed certainty and competitiveness. It also reinforces the need for us to continue improving trade facilitation, accelerating ease-of-doing-business reforms, and ensuring that our local industries are well positioned to take full advantage of international opportunities.”

The removal of these tariffs restores balance to a sector already facing global pressures and helps safeguard the competitiveness of Trinidad & Tobago’s world-class petrochemical industry –including the production of ammonia, UAN, and other key fertilizers essential to global agriculture. This will support continued investment, industrial stability, and economic activity across the wider manufacturing and energy value chains.

AMCHAM T&T looks forward to continued collaboration with both the Government and private-sector stakeholders to strengthen trade relations and promote long-term economic resilience.
