MEDIA RELEASE
09/10/2025
The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) extends its congratulations to the Government of Trinidad & Tobago for successfully securing an Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) license from the U.S. Treasury Department to proceed with the development of the Dragon gas field in collaboration with Venezuela. We see this as another positive affirmation of our symbiotic relationship with the United States of America.
AMCHAM T&T recognizes this development as important for Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector and wider economy, reinforcing the nation’s strategic role in advancing regional energy security. The OFAC license paves the way for legally compliant cross-border collaboration on the Dragon gas project, which would enhance our medium-term economic outlook and facilitate T&T's continued capacity to be a leading and reliable hemispheric partner.
The response to this latest development demonstrates that the Government is cognizant of the complex geopolitical, regulatory, and commercial dynamics that will allow for the eventual development and is acting decisively to navigate them.
This license is more than a regulatory milestone; it is a vote of confidence in Trinidad & Tobago and our energy future.
AMCHAM T&T reaffirms its commitment to working alongside the Government, energy stakeholders, our members, and foreign partners to facilitate sustainable economic development.
END.
