The Joint Chambers of Trinidad & Tobago have delivered a variety of hardware items requested by NEMO in St Vincent to support relief efforts. This includes tarpaulins, wheelbarrows, shovels, rope, plastic sheeting, water boots, safety vests, cutlasses and plywood.
These items were purchased at discounted prices from Coreas Hazells hardware in Kingstown, St Vincent using funds donated by member companies and member of the public. Coreas Hazells had previously donated large volumes of supplies to NEMO. In keeping with good humanitarian relief practices, we have tried to purchase items as close as possible to the impacted communities: this helps the local private sector continue to operate during the crisis.
The Joint Chamber comprises:
• AMCHAM Trinidad & Tobago,
• Energy Chamber of Trinidad & Tobago,
• Trinidad & Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce, and
• Trinidad & Tobago Manufacturers Association.
The four organisations collaborate closely to ensure an effective private sector response to disasters both in Trinidad & Tobago and in the wide Caribbean. Working in partnership with CPSO, CARICHAM, ODPM and the Government of Trinidad & Tobago, the Joint Chambers contribute to the official response plans coordinated by CDEMA. We have a strong partnership with the St Vincent Chamber, not least because of the work we did together in response to the 2021 volcanic eruptions.
The Joint Chambers will continue to support relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl and to work to maximise the effectiveness of the private sector response.
