The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2019 with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), becoming the lead for ARISE in Trinidad and Tobago.

ARISE Trinidad & Tobago (ARISE T&T) is a network designed to engage the private sector in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction at the local level. ARISE T&T operates as a subcommittee under AMCHAM T&T's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Committee. Since the signing of the MOU, AMCHAM T&T has undertaken numerous activities aimed at fulfilling its commitments through the ARISE T&T sub-committee.

ARISE T&T sub-committee has 24 diverse members that comprise the Private Sector, Public Sector, NGOs, and the AMCHAM T&T Secretariat.

What is the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030:

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 contains seven targets and four priorities for action to prevent new and reduce existing disaster risks:

(i)                    Understanding disaster risk;

(ii)                  Strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk;

(iii)                Investing in disaster reduction for resilience and;

(iv)                Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response, and to "Build Back Better" in recovery, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.

It aims to achieve a substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods, and health, and in the economic, physical, social, cultural, and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities, and countries over the next 10 years.

The Framework was adopted at the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan, on March 18, 2015.
