Glenn Hamel-Smith

Glenn obtained his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law as a Deans’ Honor Scholar followed by his Legal Education Certificate from Hugh Wooding Law School. Prior to that he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in International Business and Management Information Systems from Florida International University where he graduated at the top of his class as a Faculty Scholar. He has also participated in numerous post-graduate training courses including at both Oxford University and the University of Cambridge.
Glenn has been ranked for ten years by Chambers Global (described as the definitive mark of excellence across the legal industry with rankings based on in-depth analysis and independent research) and is currently ranked in Band 1 in Trinidad and Tobago. He was recently described by Chambers Global as adding “value beyond what I would expect from counsel” where it was noted that “he has a level of wisdom he brings along with his legal skills”. In 2023, Glenn was also included by Business Today in the Top 10 Game-Changing General Business Lawyers in Trinidad & Tobago.
Glenn’s practice focuses on bank finance (including secured and unsecured lending) and regulation, project finance, mergers & acquisitions including merger control regulation, securities advisory matters, and capital markets transactions including IPOs and APOs. He is trusted counsel to corporate and financial services clients and has led transactions valued at over One Billion United States Dollars. He has been a speaker at several conferences and has published and co-published numerous articles on varied topics including merger control, corporate governance, securities laws, bank finance and regulations, taking security over collateral, and mergers and acquisitions.
A former vice-president of the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad & Tobago (AMCHAM), Glenn currently serves as a director and corporate Secretary of AMCHAM and formerly sat on its Transparency Accountability and Governance (TAG) Committee. He is also a former longstanding member of AMCHAM’s Legislative Committee and served as Chair for three years. He previously served as a director of Trinidad Cement Limited and currently sits on and Chairs the Boards of Readymix (West Indies) Limited and ExeQtrust Limited. He also serves as a director of Island Finance Trinidad & Tobago Limited. He is married with two children and an avid pickleball player.
