Media Release - AMCHAM T&T Welcomes Landmark e-KYC Agreement Introducing NOBIS

MEDIA RELEASE
24/10/2025

The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) applauds the signing of the ground-breaking agreement to introduce the locally developed e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) platform, branded NOBIS, by the National Payment and Innovation Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NPIC-TT), Unit Trust Corporation (UTC), and the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT).

The introduction of NOBIS holds significant promise for both the private and public sectors. Businesses will now benefit from faster onboarding, lower compliance costs, and more efficient service delivery, while government agencies can enhance transparency, reduce administrative delays, and improve citizen access to key services. Together, these benefits will boost national competitiveness, support financial inclusion, and accelerate the growth of the local digital economy.

AMCHAM T&T also takes particular pride in this development, as the introduction of a single-KYC framework has been an initiative long championed in our engagements with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago. The establishment of NOBIS represents a tangible step forward in realizing that vision — one that supports both government and private institutions to improve efficiency.

AMCHAM T&T commends the collaborative efforts among all stakeholders involved in making this initiative a reality. The partnership demonstrates the strength of public-private cooperation and showcases Trinidad and Tobago’s potential to innovate and deliver world-class technology solutions that are homegrown and scalable.

“The NOBIS agreement is a significant milestone in Trinidad and Tobago’s digital transformation journey,” said Nirad Tewarie, CEO of AMCHAM T&T. “By enabling a single source for secure, legally acceptable online identity verification, we unlock new levels of accessibility, efficiency, and competitiveness for both business and government. Repetitive KYC processes, sometimes with the same financial or Government institution, are a major bugbear of citizens, NGOs, and businesses. The collaboration among UTC, TSTT, and NPIC-TT demonstrates what is possible when innovation and partnership align toward national progress.”

AMCHAM T&T remains committed to supporting initiatives that enhance digital inclusion, improve the ease of doing business, and promote technology-driven growth across all sectors. We encourage this process to be developed in such a manner to allow for private sector participation as opposed to creating a closed system that crowds out the private sector now or in the future.

We congratulate NPIC-TT, TTUTC, and TSTT for this initiative and look forward to the solution being rolled out in quick time and to widespread adoption, not just in T&T but across the region.
