The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AmCham T&T), by dint of
- The quality of its member companies;
- Our sister network of AmChams throughout Latin America and the Caribbean;
- Our access to the US Administration through parent affiliations with the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America and the Caribbean (AACCLA) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and
- Our close alliance with the U.S. Embassy in Port of Spain
is a first-stop for foreign investors seeking information and alliances, a value added partner for domestic companies, and a powerful private sector lobby with the Trinidad and Tobago and U.S. Governments.
At the time of this publication, AmCham T&T would have achieved its sixteenth year of operations. During this period, we have achieved financial stability and growth, become property owners and have made significant strides towards the achievement of our vision to be the preferred private sector business organisation for the stimulation of free and fair trade and investment within the Americas and the Caribbean.
AmCham T&T currently represents 299 member companies, comprising a mix of domestic and foreign companies with an average ratio of three domestic companies to every foreign company. These member companies are representative of the majority of industries operating within the country and range in size from small businesses to large multinational firms. This diverse membership base and the range of knowledge and skills that they bring to AmCham T&T, through their participation in the Chamber’s seven (7) committees, allows us to make informed contributions on events and issues that are both local and international in nature.
As a Chamber of Commerce, AmCham T&T is committed to ensuring that the environment within which we and our members operate is conducive to business development and growth both nationally and internationally. Through our lobbying efforts as a national private sector business organisation and our input on Government policies, legislation and social climate, we seek not only to encourage foreign direct investment in Trinidad and Tobago but also to encourage the growth of local business. By leveraging the global AmCham network, we are also in a unique position to facilitate the formation of direct links between our members and businesses in the Americas.
We have already facilitated the development of excellent links between businesses in Trinidad and Tobago and businesses in Central America with the very successful trade mission to Panama, El Salvador and Costa Rica in March 2008. Our intent is to expand on these initiatives not only with Latin America but also with the US, through collaborative efforts with the US Department of Commerce.
AmCham T&T frequently researches companies and markets for our members seeking to expand their business horizons, a service we also provide to foreign companies who wish to do business in Trinidad and Tobago. Indeed, this service has resulted in new business for quite a few AmCham T&T member companies. As advocates for expanding trade and investment, we will continue to focus on these trade facilitating services as well as seek to improve our country’s trade agreements and position through our lobbying efforts.
