Conference Rationale 2013

Conference Rationale

The American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad & Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) is pleased to announce that its 17th Annual Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Conference & Exhibition will be held on September 25th & 26th, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad. The theme for this year’s event is “HSSE Excellence – Economic Success through Innovative, Integrated HSSE Strategies”.

AMCHAM T&T is a strong advocate of the promotion of HSSE best practice and has played a critical role in the development of both the environmental and occupational safety and health movements in Trinidad & Tobago. One example of this is the AMCHAM T&T HSSE Committees which seek to foster consciousness and awareness in the areas of Occupational Health & Safety, Security, the Environment and related subject areas throughout the private sector, our membership and the national community. We firmly believe that HSSE best practice makes good business sense and that organizations should be encouraged to implement same; as the benefits accrue not only to the organization but to the wider society.

AMCHAM T&T’s HSSE Conference & Exhibition is the chamber’s primary initiative for the promotion of HSSE best practice and new concepts, sharing of information and the provision of a neutral forum for discussion of controversial issues with HSSE implications. AMCHAM T&T has always maintained that Excellence in HSSE is synonymous with good business practice. Many organizations still have a reactive, fragmented approach towards environmental, social (health and safety) and regulatory issues; opting in many cases to merely respond to an emergency or comply with specific regulations as they arise. This year’s conference will seek to make a more direct case for the economic benefits that can be derived from incorporating HSSE Systems into the overall business operation.

The two (2) day Conference will attract close to three hundred (300) HSSE professionals from across the private and public sector.

Technical sessions and panel discussions will feature a wide range of local and international speakers on seven focus areas:

Occupational Health

Occupational Safety

Process Safety

Environment (General & Marine)

Security and Disaster Preparedness

Additional features include:

A Youth Forum

An HSSE Career Guidance Session
